Yamato (Planet)

Yamato is a planet in the star system named Wa. It is said to be where most traditional Japanese migrated either before or after the Wars of the Dispersal.

"Where are you from?"

"The star is named Wa, and the planet is named Yamato. They are ancient names for my homeland. And most of the outmigrant Japanese from Earth live on Yamato, or in the star systems immediately around it. We like our privacy."

"And where is Yamato?"

"You can find it in your gazetteer, I'm sure." She didn't sound convincing.

While it is implied to be near enough to Beowulf (a ten-year trip from Capital) for Yamaguchi Yukiko to travel there from Yamato for technical conferences and to purchase materials not available on Yamato, "near" is relative for her; Yamato is about six years' travel time equidistant from both Capital and Beowulf (about 52,000 light years from both).
