Devlin's Star (Star System)

Devlin's Star is the name of a star system in the Timelines universe.

Devlin's Star is the popular name for HD 168746, a G5V yellow dwarf star located about 137 light years from Earth in the constellation Serpens.

It was named "Alasia" by the IAU in 2019. Two centuries later this has been forgotten, other than by academics digging through their dusty records. The Earth nation of Cyprus, which the IAU assigned to come up with a name for the star and its (at the time) single known planet, has raised formal objections with the colonial government of Devlin's Strike, but nobody there cares what anyone on Earth thinks.

Devlin's Star has two planets, one human-habitable, Devlin's Strike. Devlin's Strike has a semi-major axis of revolution averaging 1.2 AU, which places it pretty in the middle of the life zone.

The other planet, HD 168746 b, was discovered in 2000 by the Exoplanet Group at the Geneva Observatory (really!) and has a mass of approximately .23 Jupiter masses. Its semi-major axis is 0.065 AU and it has an orbital period of about six and a half days. The planet was named "Onasilas" by the IAU, also in 2019, and the name was just as quickly forgotten in the era of starflight. The planet has no known name in 2049, but if is referred to at all by residents of Devlin's Strike and other seasoned star travelers, they generally call it "that damn hellhole" and move on to another subject.
