The Invasion Came In Waves
This is a super-short story of only 1100 words. The plot is that aliens have traveled through space for millennia and have found a food source on Planet Earth. The aliens are energy beings, and their food source is the electromagnetic waves created by humans' electronic devices.
The president of the United States, who has a teenage daughter who is a ham radio enthusiast, figures out with her help that the aliens feed on radio waves (to oversimplify things). This means they'll invade and destroy any device that produces such waves, including networked computers and just about anything else that uses silicon chips for control. However, they don't find the waves produced by old-fashioned electronic equipment, like old radio transceivers, to their taste.
The world shuts down (it was going to have to anyway) everything of modern electronic construction, in an attempt to starve the aliens out. Eventually the aliens admit defeat, and move on to find another solar system to exploit. The world sighs with relief, and rebuilds, but without learning its lesson.
Several years later, the president's daughter -- now a college student -- awakens from a nightmare, and realizes:
The invasion came in waves.
The story ends with another wave of aliens targeting Earth...
